ICDE Global Advocacy Campaign Presented During the 35th Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Annual Conference

IN PHOTOS: University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Chancellor, and Chair of the ICDE Global Advocacy Campaign (GAC) on Open Flexible Distance Learning (OFDL)  Asia, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria,  led the presentation in the Panel Session on ICDE GAC on OFDL held on 2 November 2022, at Jeju, South Korea, in the occasion of the 35th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities. A meeting with the Working Groups of the ICDE GAC Asia was also held. With Dr. Bandalaria are Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Committee Chair for the GAC-Philippines Team; Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, UPOU Program Development Associate for Institutional Linkages; and Asst. Prof. Reinald Adrian Pugoy, Director of the UPOU ICT Development Office.



ICDE Global Advocacy Campaign on OFDL Launched in Asia

ICDE Leaders launched the Asia leg of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Global Advocacy Campaign (GAC) on 29 July 2022 in Penang, Malaysia.  The launching of the campaign was one of the highlights of the High Level Roundtable Discussion for Vice Chancellors and Senior Officials of ODL Institutions organized by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and Asia eUniversity.

Leading the launching ceremony were the ICDE Secretary General, Ms. Torunn Gjelsvik, and the Co-chairs of the ICDE GAC Asia:  Professor Dato Dr. Ahmed Ansary, Founding President of Asia eUniversity and Prof./Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University.  The Campaign website (https://icdegac-asia.org), which will be the digital hub for the activities to be implemented in the countries in Asia covered by the campaign, was also launched and presented to the public during the event 

ICDE GAC Asia is composed of five (5)  working groups which includes Policy, Capacity Building, Sharing Best Practices and Resources, Development of Digital Platform, and Future Collaboration. 

The ICDE GAC enables ICDE members to develop deeper understanding of regional challenges and construct key OFDL messaging within organized working groups around the world. Among the member institutions of the ICDE GAC Asia are the following: University of the Philippines Open University, University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE), Bangladesh Open University, Southeast Asian Ministries of Education Organization Secretariat, Virtual University of Pakistan; Asia e University Malaysia, Anadolu University, The Open University of Sri Lanka, Open University of China, Open University of Japan, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Universitas Terbuka, Mehr Alborz Institute of Higher Education and HELP University Malaysia.
